Elena Dunn – Board Chair
Born in Ontario, Elena has lived and worked in Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria and now Salt Spring Island primarily in marketing and research for the newspaper industry. Now retired, she can usually be found with a book in her hands exploring her passion for history, literature and biography. She has rediscovered fitness, taking advantage of Salt Spring’s glorious outdoors with hikes up the 100 Hills area where she lives and when weather makes that difficult, she wears out the carpet under her elliptical machine.
Paul Roberts – Treasurer
Born in Edmonton and grew up in the south Okanagan. A scientist by nature and by training (x-ray crystallography). Cambridge University, Max-Planck Institute in Germany, Ontario Ministry of Environment and then started his own management consulting business. He’s volunteered widely at LMH Auxiliary, Hospice and Greenwoods.
Kathryn McNaughton – Secretary
Kathryn spent her career as an educator, facilitator and mentor. Her teaching and consulting work has taken her across Canada and internationally to China, India, Trinidad/Tobago, and Zambia. Her interests in education and community are reflected in her work as a board member for the Justice Institute of British Columbia and for the Salt Spring Island United Church.
Alistair Sim – Director
From Fife, Scotland. His career was in administration – Director at Burnaby General Hospital, Hospitality at the Empress Hotel and a Longshoreman.
Marguerite Lee – Director
Marguerite is an Islander who believes in giving back to the community. She has a background in business and finance so has volunteered her skills to organizations such as SSI Farmers Institute, the Fall Fair, Island Comfort Quilts, Emergency Social Services and United Way. Marguerite is looking forward to the new challenges that she will face at the Senior Centre.
Gail Neumann – Newsletter
I arrived on Salt Spring, from Saturna Island, in 2000. Many former elementary students here remember me as their friendly office administrator. I have been a contributing writer to local publications since the late 1990’s and I continue to write daily. I am active in church and para-church activities, including being a mentor to young moms, and supporting a camping association. I volunteer with the Salt Spring Historical Society. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, swimming, and reading.
Kathleen Doyle-Linden – Director
Kathleen and her husband, Andy, moved to Salt Spring Island from Calgary in 2023. Prior to her retirement she was chief human resources officer with comprehensive experience within energy, education, talent, employment, and social services sectors, spanning private, public, and not-for profit organizations. Her responsibilities included strategic planning, talent engagement and communication, leadership training and development, ethics and human rights, and change management.
Since moving to Salt Spring Island, she joined the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation Board in 2023 and has worked on various projects for the Island Community Clinic Society and Salt Spring Groove. After working on some projects for them and getting to know other Board members of Salt Spring Seniors Services Society, their progressive vision and ‘can-do’ attitude inspired her to join the team.
