INTRODUCTION TO THE TRANSPORTATION QUESTIONNAIRE

STUDY PROCEDURES

You are invited to participate in a research survey on transportation needs on Salt Spring Island, in coordination with the Salt Spring Seniors Society. Your participation will take approximately 10 minutes. Please understand your participation is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw your consent or discontinue participation at any time prior to or while taking the survey without penalty. You have the right to refuse to answer any question that you are not comfortable with. However, if you would like your answers recorded, you must click through to the end of the survey to submit your answers. Because the data is de-identified, it cannot be withdrawn after the survey has been submitted.

DATA AND PRIVACY

This survey asks for postal code of residence, demographic information, and descriptions of trips that you have taken or would like to take. The data will be kept on a computer hard disk at the University of British Columbia, which will be encrypted and password protected. The data will be retained within a UBC facility for 5 years after publication. Only the Principal Investigator will have access to the raw data. Aggregated data (e.g., data at the Forward Sortation Area level) generated from the data collected in this study may be shared with the research community at large to advance science. We will remove any personal information that could identify you before files are shared with other researchers to ensure that, by current scientific standards and known methods, no one will be able to identify you from the information we share. Results of this study may be presented at conferences or published in journals, books, and the popular media. All computerized data will be destroyed permanently after the required storage period. This will include overwriting data with a series of characters or reformatting the disk by destroying everything on it.
